Extending our Bedroom Drawer Rails
In early 2016 the two sliding rails for our bedroom’s hamper stopped working. It looks like they were installed a little too far apart, and over time the hamper bent the rails enough that they stopped working. With a quick trip to Home Depot we acquired replacement rails and some shims, and got to work replacing them. The new rails were a little thicker, so they fit perfectly without the shims. Even better, they extended out a few inches further than the rails Tiffin had used. Pictured below is the hamper on the left with the new rails, and another drawer on the right with the old rails:
This is actually a big deal! The drawers in our Motorhome are all recessed under the countertop and wardrobe above, so when our bedroom slide is pulled in the end of the bed fits perfectly under the countertop. Unfortunately that made it pretty hard to get things in and out of the top drawers, since even when fully opened, the drawers were still 1/4 blocked by the countertop.
After we discovered that the Home Depot rails were longer and allowed full access to the drawers, we went back and bought three more sets for the rest of the top drawers in the dresser. It seems like a minor improvement, but it makes the bedroom drawers much more usable.
